Ignoring Openings

A hole in a tree with many layers, open to teh other side.

I just don’t have it in me to consider this Opening. Too much is going on and I am tired.

It’s An Option

There is no obligation to enter an Opening. It is fully our choice. We set our own pace. Openings will continue appearing. We can acknowledge or ignore them. We can pay attention or not. We can enter them or walk on by, as if they are not even there.

If we ignore Openings, life will be different. We’ll make our excuses why we cannot acknowledge them and, after a while, will not even see them anymore. They will cease becoming a part of our lives. They are still there, but there is a barrier in our perception. We have turned away. We have become engulfed in everyday life, or we have consciously decided that Openings should not be part of our lives.

There is a concept that we can “fall asleep” to our journeys. One way to do this is to ignore Openings. We focus on whatever else we want to focus on and let the concept of our being on a journey go. Life keeps us busy and distracted from our journey. We can go a long time in this state. However, if we do for too long, we lose our way and often do not realize that we have. We are lost in the illusion of a life without Openings.

How To Do It

How to ignore Openings? There are various ways. Here are some of them.

  • Convince ourselves that Openings do not matter. We must tend to life as it is, not think about growth and development.
  • Allow fear to undermine us. Openings can be daunting and require courage to address. Our fear can convince us to stay “safe”.
  • Get distracted and fill our lives with other things, so that there is no room for Openings.
  • Get caught in the “dramas” of relationships and everyday life and allow them to consume us.
  • Convince ourselves that Openings do not matter.
  • Allow aspects of our life to drain our energy so that we have no energy left for Openings.
  • Get caught in a belief system that negates the value of Openings.
  • Get caught in complacency. Life is good enough as it is.
  • Get discouraged by a lack of progress or not being able to overcome challenges and give up on growth and Openings.
  • Compare ourselves to others and feel we are not where they are, instead of walking our individual path.

➟  Are you ignoring Openings? Want to change that and welcome them? Let’s talk.

What It Brings

Openings facilitate our growth, give us adventures and enable us to change. Without Openings, we can exist and get on with life to a degree. But what is life without Openings? Where do we get our meaning for life without Openings? Ignoring Openings leaves us in an open space. We may have a lot going on in our life and even have purpose, but growth and progress are not happening.

The thing is not to give up altogether on Openings. We can pause at times to recenter or get our bearings. We may say no to an Opening just because our life is full of things. We may decide to focus away from Openings for another purpose at times. That’s okay. No problem there. We need discernment, however. Are we ignoring Openings or taking a temporary step away? What is our motivation? To grow in another way or to avoid looking at Openings?

Without Openings, life can become stagnant. We may find ourselves frustrated, bored, without direction or unmoored. Openings aren’t everything but they give us opportunity and by choosing whether to enter them and entering some, we add vitality to our journeys. Openings give us insight, experience, challenge and wisdom. As we encounter them, we grow and learn.

Our Choice

Openings keep our lives vital. We have free choice but we ignore Openings at our peril.

Life without Openings isn’t very fulfilling. I think I’ll make room for them.
