Pushing Through Openings

Thick, brown mud in various patterns

Why so slow? I want to move in this Opening and it is like walking through mud.

Sometimes A Breeze

With some Openings the wind is at our back. We set our intention and sail through. There may be slow-downs and obstacles, but we see our progress. In these Openings we bring our commitment, integrity, sense of purpose and determination to whatever presents itself. We keep walking, bringing what we have to the journey within the Opening.

This does not mean our path is easy, just that we can maintain enough momentum to satisfy ourselves that entering the Opening was worthwhile. We can discern the right moves to make and develop what we need to keep going. We see that the Opening is bringing us to change that will serve us. We are in sync with the Opening – in a kind of “zone” with it.

Within these Openings, the path before us can be seen, even if sometimes only for a short distance. We have the tools we need to make the most of what the Opening presents. We have allies and advantages that help us along the way. There are physical, mental and emotional demands on us and we can meet them. We are able to pick ourselves up if we meet a setback.

Sometimes A Slog

Then there are Openings that are difficult to get through. They ask a lot of us. Sometimes, we have said yes to the Opening but are not sure what it is about or where we are going. We are in it, however, and must walk forward. Once we enter an Opening, we cannot easily go back to what was. We want movement and here it is not coming at the rate we want it to. We keep our eyes looking forward and do our best to keep going.

These Openings are valuable in our journeys. Their pace gives us time and space to learn along the way. We strengthen and develop resilience, if we do not give up on the Opening. The hard part is releasing our need to know exactly where we are going and when we will get there. This puts us squarely in the unknown, which is generally an uncomfortable place to be.

Lynn Andrews once told us that the slower you go physically, the faster spiritually and vice-versa. Perhaps there is a purpose for the Openings that we slog through. Slowing down helps us think. We have time to observe. The challenges we encounter must be handled or we can’t move on. At a slower pace our awareness is sharper. We can stop and smell the roses, if we keep our frustration at bay.

Getting Through It

This blog post is about pushing through Openings. But pushing does not necessarily mean speed. It means doing what we need to within the circumstances we find ourselves. When we encounter an Opening that is difficult to get through, we must adjust to its pace in the best way possible. That way we get to know the Opening and can find our way through it.

We need to do our best to stay steady as we move through the Opening, even though we may not like where we are. Staying balanced is key. It is on us to move through the Opening doing what is needed. We can ask ourselves what the Opening is asking of us. What do we need to do to move through it successfully? We can adjust to its pace and make the most of it.

Finally, self-nurturing helps a lot. Doing things that bring us joy and relieve stress. It’s not horrible that we are having to push through an Opening. It has something to offer us. Trust is important too. Openings can put us in the unknown. We must develop trust that we will find our way and have faith in our ability to do so.

Many Kinds of Openings

One thing that we know by now is that there are many kinds of Openings. Let’s celebrate that and let their variety propel us forward.

I’m ready to accept pushing through an Opening at a slower pace. I’m interested to develop the ability to do so and in what I will gain!
