Where Are We?
Goodness, it’s like whiplash the way we are experiencing change. Little is familiar and we have no choice but to accept it all. I don’t even know where I am.
Point Of Reference
A weariness is becoming evident in our world now. For some, it has existed for a while. Now, it seems to be widespread. This weariness shows in different ways – grief, fatigue, uncertainty, disappointment, anger, resistance, a feeling of being unsafe. No wonder – we have been through a lot with the pandemic and now are dealing with a new variant and much disagreement on how to handle it. Other things are occurring at the same time, threaten the health of our societies and even our planet.
People are coping in their own ways. Some are grasping for the normal that used to be. They believe they deserve some normalcy after a lot of change and uncertainty. Others are in fear, cowering under the enormity of it all. Some are mustering their courage and strength to go forward amidst it all.
What is our point of reference? There is no coherence in our society now. Polarity is stronger than it’s ever been. With the crises we are facing, there is no clear or unified path ahead of us. There is animosity, dysfunction, confusion – all making stability elusive. We need a point of reference to ease the weariness we are experiencing.
Not Openings Alone
This blog focuses on Openings – opportunities for growth and transformation that present themselves to us. Openings are important elements in our journeys. Right now, how keen is our ability to take advantage of Openings? Do we have what we need to enter them? Can we even see them amidst the change, chaos and uncertainty of this time?
There are Openings around us and there always will be. Our landscape is changing and we must change with it. The challenge is that so much is shifting and the future cannot yet be seen. We need to align ourselves with new Openings in order to see them and to enter, if we choose.
So, if we shift our focus, just for a short time to stabilizing, looking around and knowing where we are, we may lessen some of our weariness. Once we have done so, we will see Openings all around us and confusion will lessen.
Context
Context is the interrelated conditions in which something exists or occurs. We have a pretty good sense of our conditions now. Do we see the interrelationships among all that is happening? Do we see a cohesive whole or just chaos and fragments? Having a context for these times can help us immensely to thrive and take advantage of new Openings that beckon us.
In my book Chrysalis: Personal Transformation From The Inside Out I use the context of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly to help readers understand their own transformations. Within the cocoon of Nature’s Chrysalis, things must be pretty chaotic. Standing away, however, we see it for the transformation that it is.
What is a possible context for the times we are living in? There can be many. We need to find something that fits – that each of our hearts and minds can embrace. Some see this time as pushing us forward rapidly into change and a new world. Some see chaos alone. Others see us strengthening and, even amidst extreme polarity, see us coming together in support and collaboration.
➟ My Coaching For A New Era program looks at the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of your life now and can help you find a context within which to grow and move forward.
Centering Within Chaos
What is really before us is a need to center ourselves within change, uncertainty and chaos. So much of our existence is upended now. That upending may be necessary for a major transformation that many have been calling for. We don’t really know. What we do know is that we have been catapulted out of what was once our normal and a new normal has yet to emerge.
So, now we each must answer the question, where are we? We need to examine all that has occurred and find our place within it, so we can be at our best as we experience change and encounter new Openings. We do not need certainty, just awareness and an ability to ride with all that is happening.
Centering is essential – mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. We can find our ways to do this. When we do, we will use this time for our betterment and will begin to see the path ahead.
This is like nothing I have encountered before. But, even so, I will prevail and knowing where I am will help immensely.
