Slowing Down and Speeding Up

In my work with Lynn Andrews, she once said to me that the faster you go physically, the slower spiritually and the faster spiritually, the slower physically. This is interesting to ponder. When Lynn said this to me, she explained that my life in New York City was not as conducive to working with her as when I moved to California and met her. I saw something in this. – Ann

Motion

Each day we are in motion. It is worthwhile to observe how we move through our day. When we pay attention to how we move, there are things to notice. Are we conscious of how fast or slow we go? Do we recognize the strengths and weaknesses of each type of motion? How resonant is Lynn’s statement in our own lives? Have we found evidence it is true or untrue?

Motion is life – we are born to move. In physics, motion is the phenomenon in which an object changes its position over time. Many things are around us are in motion, whether human or mechanical. Motion is as important to our bodies as food, water or oxygen. How we move can greatly influence the state of our lives – fast, slow, smooth, halting, balanced, unbalanced.

The opposite of motion is stillness, also very important in our lives. In stillness we have the opportunity to deeply connect with ourselves. Much can be accomplished in stillness, without motion. It comes to a balance of doing and being – of moving fast and moving slow. Of knowing what speed is best for the time.

Discerning

Discerning between speeding up and slowing down is important. Being aware in the present moment how you are moving. What does a situation call for? What are the impacts of speed and slowing down in various situations?  We can answer these questions and develop skill in determining and balancing our speed in life. So much movement in our world is done unconsciously and impulsively. This does not serve us.

Where do Openings come in when it comes to slowing down or speeding up? Do we enter them slowly or quickly? Do they take us in slowly or quickly? Some Openings may require speed, others patience. Discernment comes in here too. Certain Openings may teach us about speed and help us to grow. We may stumble with our speed or lose opportunities due to our slowness or speed.

Discerning what is needed in the moment is key.

This Season

Depending on the hemisphere we live in, we are entering fall or spring. Both of these seasons have their share of movement. As we move through the season what balance of fast or slow is best? Are any Openings appearing and asking for speed or slowness? How do we want to move through the season? Are we aware enough of the nature of our movement to discern what is best for us?

Fall is a time of gathering. A time of change and of letting go. Beauty surrounds us. It is a time of reaping what we have sown earlier in the year. During the fall, we pull our energies in to be ready to harvest and to prepare for the winter ahead of us. Fiery beauty and letting go is all around us.

Spring is a time of planting seeds. It is the beginning of a new cycle of life. Awakening from winter we see early signs of life and fertility all around us. We awaken to the world again. We set our sights on what we want to accomplish in the months ahead. What we want to see blossom in summer. We are born anew

Fire Horse Year

We are in the last quarter of the Year of the Fire Horse. What speed are we travelling at right now? Has the year been fast or slow, balanced or varied? What speed do we want to travel this last quarter in? What Openings do we see before us?
