Change and Openings
Some Openings are accompanied by changes I would not have invited into my life. But, they show up and I find them quite challenging. They must be dealt with, like it or not.
“Good and “Bad” Change
Change can be welcome (good) or unwelcome (bad) in our lives. Once change shows up, however, we do not have much choice regarding its presence. Change alters our lives, sometimes radically, sometimes only slightly. The movement caused by change can be unsettling. Many humans like a steady existence, without the jolts of change.
When change is welcomed, our acceptance of it often goes smoothly. We like what has happened and make the adjustments it requires. There may challenges that come along with the change, but we are motivated to face them. We see the rewards this welcomed change will bring and are excited to realize them.
When change is unwelcomed, it can be hard to accept. We are forced to face the challenges it presents. Our lives are altered, like it or not. Acceptance of unwelcomed change may take some time and adjustment that is not at all easy. This type of change may have hidden rewards that are hard to see when it first appears.
The Inevitability of Change
What is it about humans that change can be so difficult for some? Why do we so often resist it? Some can be confused by change, not knowing what has occurred or how to deal with it. Some see change and transition as a stressor. Some see change as a threat – they feel dealing with the change is too taxing, asking them to go beyond their limits or capacity.
Despite our resistance to change, the truth is that we live in a world where change is constant – even more so with recent technological advances, an abundance of information and data, the speed of communications and travel and a new global perspective that greatly widens our horizons. We may as well surrender to this and learn how to make the most of change.
One tool that is very effective in dealing with and accepting change is the concept of “pivoting”. Pivoting involves changing perspective and getting in motion when something shifts in our lives. It can be voluntary or involuntary. When a change occurs, pivoting involves addressing the change and incorporating it as part of our lives. What was is gone, this is now.

Openings Bring Change
Openings are an invitation to go somewhere new. They often offer opportunities for growth and transformation. As we decide to walk through an Opening, we are accepting the change it brings. With that acceptance comes responsibility to move with change and make the most of it. This involves new perspectives, addressing challenges and welcoming new elements into our lives.
Here are some ways to effectively deal with the change an Opening can bring:
- Acknowledge – look directly at the change that presents itself, acknowledge its presence and realize it is something for you to deal with
- Assess – study the nature of the change, what it will require of you, its challenges and its rewards
- Decide – think out how to address the change
- Incorporate – make the change a part of your life incorporating the new elements that come with it
- Accept – welcome the change and what it brings
Life’s journey works only when there is movement. If change does anything it gets us in motion. The movement involved compels us to grow, develop courage, seek adventure and expand our experiences. Welcoming change makes our lives better and better.
Embracing It All
What this is all about is welcoming Openings and change as a regular part of our existence. Safety and stasis are illusions when it comes to the nature of life. We are meant to experience life in its full magnificence – good and bad and in between. By embracing all of life we grow. In 2022 welcome Openings and change and see how magical life can be!
Okay, okay – change and Openings. I will make room and no longer hide from them. Can’t wait to see the difference it makes!
