Dark Openings
An Opening is beckoning. I am not sure about it. I feel I need to enter, but I cannot see what lies within it.
Choosing A Path That Is Difficult to See
There are reasons why we choose to enter an Opening that shows us little of what it is. Sometimes, we are forced to move forward. Perhaps someone very close to us has passed and our life must go on alone. Perhaps we are unhappy with the present state of our life and do not want to remain where we are. Perhaps major changes have occurred and what we once knew is gone.
We are in a position where we know we must move forward. A dark Opening appears before us. The problem is that it is far from clear what the Opening is offering. Do we stay back or enter? If we enter, what are we getting ourselves into? What are we doing considering entering this Opening? The Opening is asking for our faith. It is saying that we know we must move forward and here is an opportunity to do so.
What can be right about embarking on a path we cannot see? We may have no other choice, it being the only option before us. We may feel a desperation for change in our life. We may like adventure and realize that with adventure often comes risk. We may understand the nature of the unknown – that it offers riches that initially we cannot see. We are game to give this dark Opening a try.
Entering
As we choose to enter a dark Opening, we must be present and watchful. Our path is not lit and, until light comes through, we must acknowledge that we are unsure of either where we are or where we are going. A dark Opening has a different nature. It may slow us down. It may give us time and space to think differently. It may strengthen us for what is to come.
There is no need to fear, however, fear can easily arise in the dark. We must be watchful to not let fear take hold and take our journey step-by-step. We may be able to see a small distance in front of us and take advantage of that. Eventually, we acclimate to the environment of the dark Opening and we begin to see more. We steady our steps and begin to find our way forward.
It is important to remember why we entered this Opening. Was there nothing for us where we were? Then we want to proceed even though it is difficult to see. Were we somehow forced into this Opening? Then, we’ll make the best of it. Did we ask for change and this is it? Once we acknowledge how we got where we are, we can proceed and make the best of it. We will grow and we know life is ever-changing.
Progressing
How do we move forward in a dark Opening? We figure it out by being present in the moment, acknowledging any progress we make and seeing the Opening in the context of what we want for our life. It is as if one door has closed and we have not yet reached the next door. We do our best to accept where we are and that we have chosen to be here. We accept the many unknowns in our life and are grateful for this opportunity to be in movement.
Challenges are present in dark Openings. We must be ready for them. Perhaps the darkness is there to soothe us. Do we really want to know all that lies ahead? This Opening is leading us somewhere. The darkness relaxes us if we let it. The darkness holds us until the path is lit. As challenges arise, we handle them, hopefully from a place of calm and preparation.

Then The Light Comes
At a certain point in a dark Opening the path is better lit and we gain a sense of where we are and where we are heading. Was going through the darkness of this Opening the only way we could get to where we are? Perhaps. The darkness gave us cover, silence and a sense of the unknown, which is ever-present in life.
Now, we have light. We are in a good place, far from what we left. The path becomes easier and we are changed for the better.
Am I glad I entered this dark Opening! I love where I am and I am stronger, happier and ready for all that good that is to come because I entered it.
