Mirrors and Openings

I am experiencing an intense week of “mirrors” that are asking a lot of me. This has me thinking of the role mirrors play in our lives and how they relate to Openings. – Ann

The Role of Mirrors

In my work with Lynn Andrews, she often spoke of the “mirrors” in our lives. Mirrors are situations that make us look at aspects of ourselves, often in new ways. A mirror may be a relationship that becomes challenging and arouses our anger. We look in the mirror it presents to see what is upsetting us and why. What is it triggering in us? What is it showing us about ourselves?

In a challenging situation, we may not take the time to look into the mirror it presents. We are busy reacting to what has happened and figuring out what we can do about it. We may stay in the emotions we are experiencing, precluding us from looking in the mirror that it is presenting to us. Looking in a mirror in this context takes intention. We look at the root of the challenge as it pertains to ourselves.

Mirrors help us look at ourselves. Not just the glass mirrors we look into, but what the situations and challenges we experience tell us about ourselves. By looking in these mirrors we can grow, sometimes immensely, on our journeys. We may realize the deep roots of say, our anger, hurt or upset and start healing those roots so that we can be free of them.

Do you look in the mirrors your life presents to you? Are you able to recognize them and grow from what you see? Let’s talk and examine the presence and role of mirrors in your life.

Mirrors and Openings

How do mirrors relate to Openings?  Mirrors can part of or lead to Openings. Mirrors can lead to Openings as we gain insight into a situation or realize that we want to change something about ourselves. That insight creates an Opening to new understanding or movement that will move us forward on our journey.

A mirror can be part of an Opening. If we have made a choice to enter an Opening, mirrors may present themselves to us. Say, we have chosen to move to a new geographic location. As we acclimate to our new surroundings, we may realize that the way we lived before will not work for us now. We need to change how we do things. That is a mirror, if we choose to look into it.

Recognizing what mirrors are and how they help us, can quicken our progress through an Opening. They become tools for our growth. Image a hall of mirrors, like the 350 mirrors in the Hall of Mirrors at The Palace of Versailles. Your hall of mirrors could be one in which you open to see all the mirrors presented to you and the different images they provide.

Intensity

The intensity of this time has increased the number of mirrors available to us. It can be difficult to keep up with them. Where will the energy come from to look and act on what we see? We may be reeling from all that we are witnessing, unable to stay in balance or  perceive the world from our center. Within this intensity, the number of mirrors we look into may lessen but still we should strive to do so.

The mirrors that present themselves to us now reflect the intensity of this time. We may look into mirrors that are broken as the world we know crumbles. What do we do then? We look into them and identify what in our lives is breaking or broken. What do the cracked pieces of glass tell us about our lives?

A mirror may show us where to go in this intensity. If we lose our balance, we can look into that mirror and start working to regain our balance. We can look at what is happening in our world and let it help us find a context and perhaps hope. It can be hard to look at difficult situations but doing so let’s us find a way of dealing with them that we won’t find if we look away.

Coping

Looking in mirrors is not easy, especially now. Finding ways to cope with what we see and find our way to meaningful Openings serves us, however. The mirrors are there for us and to help us. We do not want to face a life with no mirrors at all.

Looking in mirrors is helping me. I am strengthening through the process. I need courage to do so, but I will find it. They will lead me to Openings or be a part of them. – Ann
