IT CAME IN LOUDLY

The year of the fire horse came in loudly. There was much fanfare and discussion about how transformative and challenging it would be. In Chinese astrology, February 17, 2026 was the start of year of the fire horse. The fire horse is associated with independence, action, freedom, and charisma. Some of us got going preparing for a fast ride and for navigating change and challenges.

We anticipated a forceful energy for the year. How well would we ride the fire horse? Where would it take us? What were we in for? The year could be one of great strides and positive change. We could move with the speed of a fire horse, focus on what we want to accomplish and have strong intention and commitment. Clarity would be essential – of where we are going and to handle obstacles and Openings that present themselves.

As powerful and spontaneous as horse energy can be, it can also be impulsive and unpredictable. This made 2026 a year where bold decisions and sudden pivots could become a theme, both on a personal and collective level. We would need to be ready and centered to handle them. We would need to stay on the horse and ride. Would we be set back in our journeys if we did not ride the fire horse?

A MID-YEAR REVIEW

We’ve made it halfway through the year of the fire horse. How is it looking? We could have forgotten or paid attention. Either way, Openings continue to appear. What have we done with them? Have we changed? Is the promise of a challenging year of growth being realized? What are the areas of our lives experiencing challenges or that need our attention?

The year could “take” us or move on without us. What happens if we turn away? We miss the ride. With the power of the fire horse, odds are it will affect our lives, whether we acknowledge it or not. Its energy is here and will be hard to ignore. The fire horse may prod us. It is unlikely we will be left alone. Its energy can carry us, or if we disregard it, stir things up and we will have to deal with that.

How are we doing with the pace of change this year? Are we acclimating to it? Taking advantage of it? Being stifled by it? Resenting it? Riding it to our advantage. The challenge is to be able to ride the fire horse to change and transformation and to take advantage of the Openings that appear. The nature of this year of the fire horse is unique. In its uniqueness it offers us so much.

THE SECOND HALF

We have the advantage of time still available to make the most of this year of the fire horse. Why does it matter? The year of the fire horse is a container giving us a perspective we can use to continue growing in our journeys. It is a prompt to be aware of the energies that surround us and to acclimate to and use them. We are not in a quiet, peaceful time. Rather, we are in a dynamic and uncertain one. The image of riding a fire horse this year fits.

Openings may offer us respite – ways to calm ourselves or things to do to make it through this time. They may also let us know the new energies and how to use them. They may offer insights regarding the times we find ourselves in. They can offer challenges to grow in the direction we need to. They can create conditions, if we are open to them, where we have no choice but to get on the fire horse.

How do each of us want to move forward? Can we harness the fire and energy of the fire horse for our good and the good of the world?

USE IT
