Reinvention As A Creative Pursuit
As my old normal fades away, I mourn it. I know I must adapt to what is present now and what is to come. I resist this change. It seems like walking in the mud in total darkness, as it is challenging and there is so much uncertainty.
Setting The Stage
These times are asking a lot of us. They are not of our own choosing and, in many ways, are forced on us. We have no choice but to deal with them. Somehow, we have to rise and find the energy we need to go forward. How do we let go of perceptions and actions that drain us and find a way forward that fuels us?
As we look ahead, there is no decree that finding a way forward has to be dull. We can take stock of where we are now, what needs to change and how we can make going forward an enjoyable pursuit. Let’s take it in steps. Step one is examining how we are dealing with our lives in the present moment – what’s good, what’s not, how our emotions and mind are coping.
Step two is identifying what has to change to get us to a place of motivation and encouragement. What needs to be released – resentment, anger, old points of view that do not serve us, looking back. Step three is identifying what we want around us as we go forward – support of friends and others, new skills, nurturing energies.
The Importance Of Point Of View
As we go forward, it is essential to craft a point of view regarding the times we are in and the changes we are making in our lives. Our point of view is the lens through which we see all that occurs in our lives. A point of view that we are a victim of the pandemic change can disable us. A point of view that change brings opportunity can enliven us.
Point of view gives us context for what we are experiencing. Chrysalis is such a context – that we individually and the world at large are going through a transformation and have the chance to emerge as butterflies. In using this context or point of view, we have a new lens to see through. It allows us to see challenges (the struggle and isolation of the cocoon), promise (the creation of a butterfly) and the need for persistence in new ways.
Point of view creates both context and momentum. Creating a point of view engages our imagination. It gives us focus and a sense of what we are aiming for. We have a way to view clearly the events and influences of our lives, rather than be haphazardly bombarded by them. A positive point of view gives us optimism and motivation to carry on.
Reinvention As A Creative Pursuit
Why not look at the demands of these times as an invitation to reinvent ourselves and have fun doing it? We are who we are today as change surrounds us and we have an opportunity to be something else in the future. We can create a wholesale reinvention or a partial one. Regardless, we will experience change and guide ourselves to be who we want to be.
The freedom to reinvent ourselves is a treasure. At times like these, we have no choice but to allow change to transform us. We can create open space, vision the life we want to live and how we can get there. We can live like an arrow and decide who we want to be or we can live like a target, letting outside forces toss us here and there, without direction.
Any creative pursuit asks us to leave our comfort zones, see possibilities as limitless and take the reins. We can reach out to the world around us and explore what is possible. We can let our imaginations go wild and see what that brings. We can say no to past limitations that do not serve us. We can be all that we have dreamed of being.
The Joy Of It All
We don’t hear about joy very often in the pandemic or in the changes the world is now experiencing. But joy is always possible, even in the hardest of times. It is not a given that this will all end badly. We are creating our world as we go. Let’s cultivate joy for the possibilities that lie before us
With joy as an element of our point of view, we are lifted. Some say that being in joy is our natural state. Society and past experiences may try to convince us otherwise, but we can resist that and claim joy as a vital part of our lives. In our lives are pain, sadness, and challenge, but these things do not blot out joy’s existence. Joy can actually blunt their effect and balance our lives.
➟ My book Kaleidoscope contains tools and pathways to help readers make the most of the new energy we are in. One tool is how to bring up joy and raise your vibration.
Can we allow ourselves to see the joy that is possible in these times? Yes! We have the opportunity to live anew and grow. We can connect with new ideas and people. We can reinvent ourselves and be anything we want to be. There is joy in change and challenge.
I am going to give this a try. I’ll start with creating joy for myself at least once a day. I will identify what brings me joy, both within and without. I will believe that transformation gives me wonderful possibilities and can bring me profound joy. I will reinvent myself in a creative way.
