No Room for Openings
My goodness. I have never been this pressed. It is not a regular stress. There is way too much to do.
These Are Not Ordinary Times
Many things are different now. The world has changed around us and did not ask our permission. The foundation we stand on has crumbled. What we once knew is no longer here and what will replace it is not yet clear. We are in an unfamiliar world and must reorient our points of view and how we function. How can we think that our lives will go on as usual? They will not.
It is time for us to look around and adjust to a new world. Pretending that change has not occurred does not serve us. The world we once knew is gone. Why would we adjust our actions to something that is not here? Changes are massive – threats to the environment we live in, polarity and separation among people, new technologies changing the way we do things and many unknowns about what the future will bring.
Times of change offer opportunities, along with challenges. We can begin to focus on what these times can bring for us. As we adjust our sights and thinking, new worlds open. Refocusing is called for in order to thrive in these times. Best to get started and not look for a world that is not here. What is gone is gone and what is new could be interesting, if we give it a chance.
The Stress of Change
No one says that change is easy. It is stressful. As humans, we generally like stability. Sure, some change is acceptable. But when change shakes us up and alters the landscape, it is hard to cope with. We have no choice, though. Change is here all around us. It is no time for delusion, but a time for open eyes and acceptance. Why not accept change, deal with our stress and get started? We now have a chance to thrive.

Stress triggers changes in our bodies looking at the causes of stress as a threat. Change is not always a threat but the body acts as if it is. Stress causes negative emotions and fear, debilitating us and diminishing our ability to cope with and adjust to change. Our minds often go into overdrive, negatively affecting our ability to think clearly about the change that is occurring.
Stress and change can redirect our focus to a point where we no longer see the Openings that are before us. Openings go by and we are looking for a world that once was, missing what is now around us. Our minds and emotions are full. Our bodies are stressed and we actually forget about Openings. We are otherwise engaged. The loss here is that Openings could be the best thing for us in a time of change.
How to Cope
In these times in order to take advantage of the Openings before us, we must learn to cope and regain our centers. Here are some suggestions on how to do this.
- Accept how we feel in the present moment be it fear, anxiety, stress, overwhelm, disappointment or wanting to hide.
- Get to the present moment. It is the only place we have. If we live in the past, we have no control, what’s done is done. If we live in the future, we live in anxiety. The only place where we are fully alive is in the present moment.
- Believe in ourselves and our ability to change. Openings are before us and we can find them.
- Find ways to quiet our minds and emotions.
- Ask for help from those we trust. Have realistic expectations that fit the times we are in.
- Have a network of support that is there when we need it.
- Take care of ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally. Up our nurturing to be able to handle the increased stress of change.
- Find ways to have fun and laugh.
- Know that we do control our lives. We have the power of choice.
Letting Go
Finally, let go of the past. Embrace these unordinary times. Mine the gold in them. Find the Openings that will allow us to thrive.
Okay, I see that the world has changed. Best for me to find a way to thrive in it. Openings will help. I am on my way to find them.
