Change and Openings

More change! What can I expect with Openings now?

The Nature of Change

If there is one thing clear about the present, we had better get comfortable with change. It’s here and sometimes turns our lives (or at least our minds) upside down. Change can dramatically alters the environment that surrounds us. Often it affects us emotionally, physically, mentally and emotionally. Getting comfortable with change can be challenging but it is almost mandatory now, as staying in place is not possible. The world we once knew is gone.

Change disrupts the flow of our lives and our everyday functioning.  When change comes, we may want to avoid it, but that complicates things and sends us backwards. Avoidance may give us initial relief from the prospect of change, but it doesn’t last. It eventually can lead to high stress, anxiety, health problems and failure. Avoidance creates an imaginary, unrealistic, perception of the change in front of us, often making it seem much worse than what it is.

Resistance is a common way for us to cope with the prospect of change. As humans, it is a natural reaction – many of us want safety and control. However if it lasts too long, resistance is harmful. We must learn to recognize our resistance by understanding our fear and our patterns in the face of change. Resistance can be overcome. And best that it is because it can obscure Openings and we may not see them.

Uninvited Openings

Many times, change makes possible uninvited Openings. We may unhappily lose a job, but an Opening to a more fulfilling job is waiting for us. Change may bring challenges not easy to go through, but resulting in building our courage, strength and insight. Change may bring us opportunities that we had not pursued before and may not even have known about. Change may bring delightful Openings and does not have to be feared.

To cope and thrive in this world, respect for the presence of the unknown is essential and must be accounted for. How? By acknowledging its presence and developing ways to accept it. We can pull back and re-look at our lives and world including providing space for the presence of the unknown. If we create a mosaic of our lives, there may be many colors but also a share of dark areas representing the unknown, just like dark matter in space.

Uninvited Openings can be upsetting but they are there asking for our choice whether to enter them. If we make this choice our focus, we bring ourselves to reality and the present moment. There is no better place to be. We can center ourselves, realizing that good things may await us. Or, challenges could lie ahead that we must meet. Either way, best that we make the most of whatever is in front of us.

Want to do some coaching to pull back and look at your whole life within this changing world and how to make the most of it? Let’s talk!

Self-Initiated Openings

Whether change comes into our lives or not, self-initiated Openings are possible. In this case, we take actions in response to change that is occurring. We take a bit of control and identify the best way to address the change. By bringing our thinking to the change, Openings appear. We are ready for them.

In the case that change is not occurring, we can look for it and take actions to find it. Say we are unhappy in a friendship – we do not like where we are and want to change the situation. We may look at our options or the pathways we can take to improve the relationship or prepare to leave it. In doing so, Openings may appear to help us do so. These Openings appear in response to our strong intentions.

Sometimes self-initiated Openings work for us and other times they don’t. That’s true with all Openings. Whatever happens, we have created movement in our lives. It is the presence of Openings and the choices we make regarding them that fuel our journeys.

Embracing Change and Openings

Change and Openings are often interlinked. By embracing this, we see the whole picture and are better able to move our journey forward. Change is part of our lives. Openings are worthy of our time. Allow them both the place they deserve in our lives.

Embracing change is a big order, but if I do I have a sense that I will welcome the Openings that appear!
