Sustaining Openings
Openings can be an endurance test! I’m weary of this one.
Openings Can Be An Endurance Test
Openings come in all varieties – long, short, big, little, complex, simple, easy, challenging – there’s no one-size-fits-all. Some Openings have much to offer beyond our first decision to enter them. Others, let us reap the rewards of an Opening in no time – almost magically. When we enter an Opening, best that we make room for the unknown. We can stay present, go step-by-step and do what is called for.
Timing has a major role to play within Openings. Making decisions at the right time can ease our way. Having the patience to accept that the time is not right for something avoids missteps. Developing the ability to endure serves us. The unknown is always a part of Openings. Learning to live within the unknown is essential. Flexibility eases our way through an Opening.
When we find ourselves growing weary of an Opening, we can pause and assess what is going on. How are we feeling about the timing of our progress within the Opening? Are there things we still need to develop? Are there positive aspects to the timing of things? Are things not yet in place for optimal outcomes? What are we gaining by waiting? Are we developing confidence, patience, resilience or another positive character trait?
A Shift In Perspective
Knowing that our point of view matters gives us an advantage in life. Our point of view is how we look at things. It is the way we view and take in the world around us. Our point of view can greatly affect our experiences. It can be expansive or limiting, optimistic or pessimistic. It can reflect both negative and positive past experiences, tilting either way.
When it comes to Openings, what about our point of view? Are we open to whatever they bring once we enter them? Let’s say a wonderful opportunity presents itself and then is delayed for a year? We were all ready and excited and now we must wait. Will our point of view stay focused on the opportunity or on the delay? Our point of view shapes the way we see the world and affects our emotions, thoughts and well-being. By learning to shift our point of view, we can gain new insights and find effective ways to deal with challenges.
What’s our point of view about the unknown? Denying its existence and thinking we always have control over our lives? Acknowledging the ever-present unknown in our lives? Can we accept the presence of the unknown within Openings and see it as an adventure and a reality of life that we can learn to deal with? With an accepting point of view about the unknown, we can flow through Openings and see the promise of the unknown within them.

Enjoying The Ride
So, as we sustain Openings can we enjoy the ride? Yes! We can think of entering and making our way through an Opening as a benevolent adventure taking us to a new place. We chose the Opening and want to go where it leads, even if we do not know exactly how we’ll get there or where it may bring us. Challenges may be part of the adventure, but we can deal with them as they arise.
Change is a constant and pretty much inevitable. When we enter an Opening, we are inviting change to come into our lives. We can either guide ourselves through change or let change take us on a bumpy ride. As we develop a positive mind set regarding change, we lose a lot of our fear of it. What’s left? Adventure, new beginnings, growth and possibility. In this mind set change looks very different.
A big part of sustaining Openings is self-care. If an Opening is smooth sailing, we can make it through. If there are challenges and aspects of the Opening that we must endure, taking care of ourselves counters them. Self-care lifts us and turns our focus to giving ourselves what we need to sustain ourselves through an Opening.
Getting Through
Learning how to sustain ourselves through Openings leads to new vistas and growth. We can seek them out and delight in what they bring us. Getting through Openings is easier and we can welcome them into our lives.
I’m refreshed and on my way. I’ve learned how to sustain myself through any kind of Opening I choose to enter!
