No Path Is Wrong

I have a decision to make on what the next chapter of my life will be. I am paralyzed with fear. What if I make the wrong one? Where will my life end up?

Many Paths Form Our Lives

Life is not a path with one starting point and one end point. During the course of our life, we take many paths. No one decision determines the outcome of our entire life. There are multiple paths to take and choices to make during the course of our life.

In my work with Lynn Andrews, she told us that if we live in the past, we live in depression. If we live in the future, we live in anxiety. The only place where we are fully alive is in the present moment. And it is from that present moment that it is best for us to make our decisions. Future impacts of choices we make are difficult to predict. Past choices do not inform the present.

In embracing the fact that we walk many paths, we can rejoice. This makes our life varied, interesting and adventurous. We can look forward to a life of diversity and fullness. We meet others on each path, learn from each place we go and gain strength from our decision-making. We grow on each path that we walk. Many paths add richness to our lives.

No Path Is Wrong

In our society, failure is not appreciated as the gift that it is. Of course, it is not easy to handle; however, failure leads to success, makes us wiser and tells us what we need to know for the future. If we can accept that we will fail at times, we can let go of our fear. This acceptance frees us to make choices and stay in motion.

All paths offer us Openings. The Openings we encounter will align with the nature of the path we are on. One time, we may choose a challenging path. Another time, a path that flows for us. As we enter an Opening, we are saying yes to the experiences and insights it offers us. Each Opening has value. We do not want the paths we walk, or the Openings we enter, to disappear because we walk away.

Say we choose a path that doesn’t work out for some reason. We still gain from choosing it. It may be that we learn what we do not want in our lives or we learn how to choose a new path. Sometimes “wrong” choices are right ones in disguise because we cannot see the future and how the path is helping us create the life we want to live.

Conscious Choice Is Key

How do we get to a place of acceptance that no path is wrong? It takes courage and often comes down to making conscious choices. Conscious choice occurs in the present moment. It considers everything that is known at the time. It recognizes the presence of the unknown and finds a way to accept it. Unknowns add magic to each path – what adventure and learning awaits us?

In making conscious choices we are dealing in reality, not illusion.  Reality is the best we have, even if it is challenging. Avoiding reality or otherwise distracting ourselves does not serve us. It skews our choices and puts us on a false foundation that will eventually crumble. With our eyes wide open, we walk a path with awareness and steadiness. We see all that is around us and act accordingly.

Conscious choices have to do with how we live our lives. They are made from a place of centering and balance. If we live in the present moment we’ll be ready. Preparation and exploration before we choose a path aids us.  Flexibility is an asset, as is having an open mind.

Have Courage And Go!

Once a choice is made, it is time to get walking. Motion brings knowledge and we get to know our path.  We find surprises, insights, beauty and new vistas. As we proceed, we get wiser about the path we are on and are able to make the most of it. Our commitment sees us through.

If we get to a point of adversity or where we question the choice we made, we can take a moment and pause. In stopping, we can assess where we are and what we want to do. We may see the Openings the path offers more clearly or see an Opening that takes us to another path.

As we get comfortable with the concept that no path is wrong and that failure has its positives, we find that courage is easier to access. We’re in a flow and obstacles fall away. Motion becomes a natural part of our being, countering fear and worry.

I feel so much lighter now that I have accepted that no path is wrong. The path I see before me is not fully known or defined. However, I am ready. I will walk it.  I know that I can choose another path whenever I want to. Each path I walk gives me something of value.
