Mystery

A beautiful tree shrouded in mist.

I am surrounded by uncertainty. Where is the world going? Where am I going?

Openings and Mystery

Openings all involve some mystery. There’s regular mystery and there is now. We are never sure what awaits us on the other side of the Opening. We do not know what the impacts of a choice to enter the Opening will be. Will we have the skills and courage once we enter the Opening? To recognize and embrace Openings we must have some level of comfort with mystery.

Today much of our lives and world are in upheaval. Within this upheaval, we are faced with choices to make about entering Openings. It’s like trying to stay steady on a bouncing trampoline. Things are shifting rapidly around us. We are far from grounded as what we were once grounded on, is slipping away.

Today’s Openings are challenging due to this upheaval. They force us to acknowledge the presence of mystery and the unknown. An Opening may offer us a new experience that is quite a leap. We start assessing it against where our life is now and realize that our life is shifting and it may be hard to predict what the potential impacts of choosing to enter this Opening may be.

Acknowledging The Mystery

In Lynn Andrews’ book, Crystal Woman: Sisters of the Dreamtime she tells a story of creating a sand painting and the lessons provided regarding the unknown.

The story begins with Lynn making a sand painting representing her life inside of time. Using color sands, she fashions her painting. It was becoming a microcosm of her inner and outer life. One afternoon Ruby, her teacher, walked into Lynn’s wurley and started shuffling her feet through Lynn’s sand painting, arousing Lynn’s anger and frustration. Lynn asked her what she was doing and Ruby said, “What I want to know is what do you have in your sand painting that represents the unknown?” Lynn realized this and put wavy black lines through the painting to represent the unknown in her life. Ruby said if you leave the unknown out, you show a lack of honor for what you perhaps cannot see.

How do you acknowledge the presence of the unknown in your life? Want to talk about it?

Living in the Mystery

The mystery deserves our honoring of it. It is a part of our existence that is often pushed aside. The unknown makes us uncomfortable, but the other side is that the unknown offers possibility, adventure and the truth of things. If we can diminish our fear of the unknown, we are able to live our lives fully and participate in the magnificence of life.

In our religions, spiritual pursuits and in taking risks the mystery is acknowledged. In some cases, acknowledgement is where we stop. Okay, the mystery is present, and we leave it there. We can always go further. Who is to say we cannot venture into the mystery? We do each time we take risks. Although we may not unravel the full mystery, we will learn more of what it is and what it has to offer us.

In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy went into the mystery when she landed in Oz. Allies, test, “lions and tigers and bears oh no!” were there as she looked for the Wizard. There was no certainty and what she expected to find, in the end,was not there. However, by entering the mystery she grew, found truth and got back home.

Reality

The mystery is part of our reality. Why ignore it? It is sparkling, exciting and beneficial once we begin to embrace it. We can start by acknowledging and embracing the presence of mystery as we encounter Openings. It will be a quickening and very well could enhance and smooth our way.

Okay, I’ll give it a try. The mystery may not be the threat I was told it was.
