Our Inner Home
Sometimes I wish for a place of refuge from the challenges and quandaries of my life.
Finding Center
So much of balance and happiness in our lives relies on being in our center. What is this center? It is a place of perspective, true perspective, of what is occurring in our lives. It is a non-judgmental place of compassion for ourselves and for others. A place of comfort that can only be found in the present moment. A place of authenticity and truth regarding who we are.
How do we find this center which exists within each of us? That is quite a pursuit. A lot distracts us from our center – noise, conflict, negative energy, worry, the intrusion of others in our lives, things that drain our energy, to name a few. Time plays games with us and can keep us from our center as we try (futilely) to manage or conquer it, rather than developing a good relationship with it.
Our center is our inner home. It is that refuge we are searching for. Once we find and nurture our center, it becomes a place of peace that we can count on. It is a place where we can come back to ourselves without the interference of the outside world. It is our place alone, if we nurture and value it. It connects us mind, body and spirit. We are whole in our inner home.
Going There
Once we find our center and inner home, we’ll want to go there regularly. How do we do that with all the things in the outside world that distract and dissuade us? First, we can set our strong intention and commit to returning to it when we find ourselves uncentered, in a negative space or in confusion. For each of us, our ways are unique, for us to find for ourselves.
Here are some ways that people find their centers.
- Breathing exercises – focusing on the breath centers and calms us.
- Mindfulness – being present to ourselves and what we are doing.
- Meditation or self-reflection – calming our minds to achieve clarity.
- Balancing our lives as best we can – getting enough sleep, fueling our energy so that energy drains in our lives do not deplete us, making room for fun and joy in our lives, understanding the balance we need among our emotions, mind, physical life and spiritual life and what works for us.
- Finding things that bring up positive emotions and nurture us. It may be music, physical exercise, a hobby, relationships, nature, fun or our own creativity.
- Looking for the good in every situation.
- Inner searching, faith and spiritual and personal development.
- Knowing what helps us relax.
- Recognizing the signs that we are losing touch with our center.
- Physical exercise.
- Stopping/pausing when we feel overwhelmed or otherwise lose our center, so that we can regain it.
Its Power
Our center is our inner home. It is our place of truth and authenticity. It is up to us to create this home in a way that serves us. It is a refuge from the outer world. It is a place where we can grow and get comfortable with change. Within our inner home, our discernment and judgment are sharp. Our interests are served when we move from our center and we are much better able to make choices about Openings that appear.
Our inner home is a place of sanctuary, a place where we are ourselves. It is a place of peace for us. A place where we can think and imagine without interference. It becomes a place of wisdom, intuition, knowledge and insight. It furthers our balance. It becomes a steady place from which we can act in our own interest.
When we have an inner home, people sense it and our relationships (with ourselves and with others) and our experiences can reconfigure, furthering our power and peace. From our inner home we can inspire others to find theirs just by what they see in us. Our life changes, deepens and becomes more fulfilling.
Nurturing Our Inner Home
Once we are there, nurturing our inner home is a pleasure. We may experience challenges and neglect our inner home, but it won’t last for long. We know its peace and want to get back there.
My inner home is a huge Opening as well as a place of wonder and solace that I am so grateful to have found.
