Where Are We?

Tall trees in a forest, some falling surrounded by a green mist.

My goodness. The world is speeding up and change is everywhere. So much is unfamiliar. Where am I?

Centering

In my work with Lynn Andrews, we used a tool that may be useful in navigating the world today. Draw a circle. Like a compass, mark north, south, east and west on the circle. With this tool, south is physical life, west emotional life, north faith or spiritual life and east mental life. These are the aspects of our lives that we must center among. The tool helps us determine where we are. The goal is to stand in our awareness in the center of the circle.

Let’s take a moment to assess where we are standing within this circle. How are we physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually? What, in today’s circumstances is affecting us the most? Dealing with change and chaos? Feeling intense emotions? Having physical reactions or illness? Overthinking or anxiety? Do we feel unstable? Stable? Uncertain?

Our challenge is to find a new center within the world as it is now. Not an easy thing to do with the world changing, chaos abounding and an unclear path ahead. But we must do it. Finding a center point does not mean certainty. It means being able to remain centered amid it all, having our wits about us so that we can continue to make positive choices and recognize and enter Openings that present themselves.

The World We Knew is Fading

We all acknowledge that our world is changing – significantly. It is hard to face – the world we knew is fading. What do we do? One important thing is to stay present and aware. Know the world that surrounds us, even if it is not what we want it to be. Mourn the world that is fading and celebrate what we had. Be strong, courageous and optimistic.  At the same time, be realistic about what our world is today and find ways to deal with it.

How are you doing as our world changes? Can I help you master the present moment? Let me know.

In the chrysalis cocoon, the caterpillar’s world and body start falling apart. From their dying energy imaginal cells that eventually create the butterfly begin to form. Then chaos reigns as surviving caterpillar cells attack the new imaginal cells. The imaginal cells must grow and struggle for survival until their numbers reach a tipping point and theY begin to create the butterfly.

One of the biggest challenges we face now is that so much is unknown. We are not assured that the butterfly will emerge within the change and chaos we are experiencing. We stand in the present and do not know the future. Fear and anxiety arise and are challenging to deal with. No one has answers of what our world will become. Once we can accept that we are facing the unknown, it will strengthen us.

Upset

What do we do with all this upset? There is no clear path – we must find our own. Of first importance is the power of letting go. It can be gradual and does not have to be catastrophic. Once we begin to let go of things that no longer serve us, we will see a path ahead of us. We will be lighter as we will no longer be clinging to what is fading in our world. We will be looking forward and no longer looking back.

We will begin to see the world as it is in the present moment. As difficult as that may be, it will serve us. To do so, we will have to calm our fears and believe in ourselves. Our clarity will help us. The support we need will be able to come through because we will be open to it. Our vulnerability will become a strength. Our vision will be clear enough to see Openings that appear to help us.

Once we are fully in the present moment, possibilities will start appearing and will enliven us. The path will become clearer.  Openings will have room to come through. It may be arduous at times however we will be in forward movement. Dealing with a world that is fading will become easier with our acceptance of it. The present moment is really all we have.

Something New

Something new is emerging. Let’s allow that to be so, even as we face the unknown of what it will be. Let’s find our place within the present moment by taking things step-by-step. Imaginal cells are multiplying in our world even as caterpillar cells are dying. Let’s look towards ourselves, find a purpose and a way to be in the present moment. If we do so, we will thrive.

I can do this. It seems to be the only way. I don’t want to be in denial or anxiety. The present moment is the place for me. I will muster my courage and strength and go forward.
