Riding The Energy

Fast blue waves crashing on gray rocks

Life is so tumultuous right now. How can I master it?

The Energy We Are In

We use words like chaos, up and down, forceful to describe the energy we are in. It is all these things and more. We are living in a time of great change. The energy is tossing us around and creating havoc in our lives. We work at centering and steadying within it. We sometimes ignore it. We may deny it. We try to understand it. We work at making it better.

What if we ride it? Yes, really. If we are surfing on an ocean wave it doesn’t serve us to hide from the wave. If we do not set our intention, the wave will toss us around mercilessly.  Picture the energy we are in going up and down and all around. If we align with it, we can ride it. Better to go with it then against it. The wave is a force field that can carry us if we let it.

As this energy moves around us, we can observe and study it. What is its nature? What is causing it? How is it affecting us mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually? How are others being affected by and dealing with it? Who is this energy serving and not serving?  What effects is it having on our world, individual lives and society? How are we all coping with it?

Beyond Flow

We often look at the benefits of flow. That is a good thing. The nature of this energy, however, is not peaceful and smooth flow may not be possible. Yes, flow starts within but many of us are not familiar with this energy and are not acclimated to it. It moves in fits and starts. Flow is often attained when we align with a softer energy. We get ourselves into it and flow.

How do we align with an unpredictable and chaotic energy? First, we must accept what it is and how it is affecting us. That is not easy to do as it may upset us and take away things we once thought kept us safe or wanted in our lives. Then we can consider ways to deal with it. We can determine, within our present reality, how the energy can serve us and how we can serve ourselves within it.

Sometimes, flow is not possible. Picture an ocean storm. Can a ship flow with it? Not really, its captain rides it using intention, strength, courage and skill. The captain must know the ship and the ocean, be ready for unpredictable occurances and stay focused and fully present to what is happening. In moments, things can change. It is not possible to plan, only to decide how to engage with it.

Riding This Energy

What are we looking at then? Maybe in this year of the fire horse, our task is riding a fire horse. There it is next to us, affecting us with its speed and fire. It could trample or burn us, if we let it. It seems dangerous as we glance at it from afar. How would we ride a fire horse? Obviously, it will take skill.  Initially, we cannot control it. We must harness its energy to ride.

Here are some thoughts on how to ride this energy, getting us started in finding our own way.

  • Decide how much of what is going on in our world we are ready to handle. Not to hide, but to find our balance. To what degree do we need to retreat from it and restore?
  • Know this energy and how it affects us by observing it and ourselves within it.
  • Accept that this is our world now Avoid looking back and wishing we could retreat.
  • Avoid fantasy. It doesn’t help. But do employ your imagination to find ways to ride this energy.
  • Find the support you need to make it through this time. Is it periodic silence and peace, being in community, helping others, balance, new skill?
  • If it appeals, be part of efforts to shift this energy to become a positive one, either by helping others acclimate to it or changing the conditions that created it.

Let coaching help you ride this energy with skill and grace.

The Lightness of It

Once we learn to ride this energy, we will experience a lightness. We can gently go up and down and around as the energy changes. We will know our way.  Its currents will carry us, no longer upsetting our lives. Where will the energy take us? Possibly to something good. We just have to navigate a bumpy path to get there.

Won’t that be nice to be able to ride this energy smoothly and go towards where it is bringing us?
