When Openings Are Hard To See

I am confused right now. The path ahead is obscured. I feel lost. I can’t figure out my next step, much less see new Openings.

When We Cannot See

They are challenging times, when we cannot see the road in front of us.  Confusion sets in. We question everything – the direction we are going in, our intentions, the elements of our world. We start to flail and stumble in our steps. We do not know where to go. We are uncomfortable and sometimes, we are stopped in our tracks.

Our expectations may be that we should see what is ahead of us and proceed with strong intention. But, how can we proceed, if we cannot see? Our ability to see Openings and move at high speed is curtailed by our lack of vision. We cannot go forward in the way we had planned. This, however, does not mean we cannot move ahead in some way.

Our challenge is to adjust our vision to what surrounds us in the present moment and proceed from there. We do not have to forget our intentions and dreams. We are just slowed down in pursuing them. Slowing down has advantages. We can look around at where we are and reassess. Insights may come, that we could not see otherwise.

Patience

Patience can see us through when our vision is obscured. Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. Patience soothes our emotions and helps us gain perspective. Patience is challenging for some. However, it is a character trait worth cultivating. Impatience puts us in all kind of troubles, without any positive results.

Patience promotes a sense of calmness within us. Our minds are not overtaxed or frustrated. Patience allows us to wait for results to appear. Patience gives us space to reframe a situation, to be grateful for where we are and to stay in the present moment (which is the only place we can truly know). Patience is a powerful place to go, when we cannot see.

With our patience, we can shift. In my work with Lynn Andrews, she once suggested that I reframe my sense of confusion to one of moving towards clarity. In her suggestion, is acknowledgement that we face unknowns and mysteries in our journeys. We are never sure of everything, even if we’d like to be. Getting comfortable with this helps us regain our perspective and to center. We are still in movement and can be productive.

Restoring Our Inner Vision

At a certain point, when we have cultivated patience and stand squarely in the present moment, we will be able to start restoring our inner vision. Doing so, will prepare us for moving forward again. We can ask ourselves how we can use this time to our advantage. We can reevaluate our past intentions and direction. In doing so, we will find ourselves in movement again.

To start restoring our inner vision, we can seek support – perhaps delving into studying something new or building our knowledge. It is our inner vision that is now our focus, not outward vision or action. We are building up inner strength, which will help us when we begin moving forward again. Our focus turns inward, to our great benefit.

Inner vision is essential in our journeys. It is a key ally in identifying Openings and moving forward. We are both inner and outer beings. Our inner vision can be obscured and curtailed by too much outer action. We need to cultivate both. When our outer vision fades, our inner vision becomes sharper. We rely on it more and there is balance.

Acceptance

Wisdom often comes down to acceptance. So, we begin with acknowledgment that we cannot see as well as we did a moment ago. Instead of berating ourselves, we accept our current state. In acceptance we regain our strength and confidence. We look short term at how we can move forward and continue our journey, aware of present limitations.

From acceptance, we move ahead. It may not be on the open road, but is movement all the same. Acceptance allows us to restore our movement and find new places that are awaiting us. Before we know it, our sight will be restored. We will be walking in our outer world again and Openings will appear!

I’m on the road again and gained so much by stopping until my outer vision was restored.
