The Openings in Chaos
Chaos swirls around me. When I regain my center, I sometimes see Openings. Can they really be there in this crazy time?
All Around Us Now
Chaos is all around us now. In many ways, it is fantastical and hard to take in. War, polarity, environmental destruction, a virus, extreme change and uncertainty – all happening at once. There is little to rely on. What is here one day, can be gone the next. It is a time of extremes, that many of us never imagined would occur.
The chaos we are experiencing varies widely from person, to country, to individual circumstance. There is no manual or rulebook, which some of us have gotten used to having. Even the leaders who have guided us in the past are experiencing this chaos. Can they guide us when they and the world are in such turmoil? We are all being tossed around.
The chaos tells us that change is upon us. The nature of the change is not yet fully known. We are in the phase of upset – of being forced to release what was and not knowing what is to come or how we can prepare. We are being asked to take the chaos in, accept the way things are and to deal with the presence of chaos, as if we know how to!
Finding Our Bearings
How do we “settle in” to chaos? It doesn’t seem possible. We may get to a place of acceptance, but what is that? Acknowledging that we don’t have our footing in the world and can’t count on continuity? How do we find our bearings when we are being tossed all over the place? Regardless, we do need to find some level of stability, even if it is not totally secure.
Finding our bearings may lie in getting comfortable with the unknown. Resetting our expectations and accepting that we don’t have certainty about what is to come or how it will affect us. There is comfort in acknowledgement of the unknown. It is here. We can’t ignore it.
Fine-tuning our awareness of ourselves and what is around us helps us find our bearings in chaos. If we are aware, we can respond to what happens, rather than being unaware and getting knocked down by whatever comes. We can look deeper at what is happening and recognize any patterns or clues regarding where the chaos is leading us and how to respond to it.
Entering Openings
When we find our bearings within the chaos, we may begin to recognize the Openings being offered to us. Chaos shakes things up. Openings can appear because there is space that was not there before. The upset of chaos rearranges things. There are new opportunities for our transformation and growth.

As we identify Openings, it behooves us to proceed cautiously. The chaos swirling around us puts us on shifting ground that we must respond to if we are to maintain our stability. We must remain centered and in our power so we are not deceived by chaos and can see the Openings before us for what they truly are.
Once we enter an Opening, chaos begins to diminish. We have made a statement that we are ready for what the Opening has to offer. We have demonstrated courage and strength and are worthy of the Opening. We are willing to take its ride amidst chaos and the unknown. We are game!
Seeing The Better Side of Chaos
Chaos, although uncomfortable, offers us magnificent Openings that are not available in quieter times. Chaos fosters our creativity. Within the upset come surprises. When chaos shakes things up, new things appear in front of us that we have not seen before. This all brings us to a new place where anything is possible.
When chaos appears or we are in times of great change, as we are now, we can acclimate ourselves to take advantage of the best of it. We can accept that consistency is an illusion and the dance between chaos and order is real. We can celebrate what chaos brings and revel in the change, ambiguity, innovation it offers us. So much is possible.
Yes, I am living reality, not a dream. The chaos I perceive is all around me. Better embrace it and find the Openings it offers!
