Openings Bring Light
Openings can be magical. What is it about them that changes my life?
The Solstices – Winter and Summer
The winter solstice (yesterday in the northern hemisphere) is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. The summer solstice (yesterday in the southern hemisphere) is the day with the longest period of daylight and shortest night of the year, when the Sun is at its highest highest position in the sky.
The solstices are all about light. We each have our reactions to light at the times of the solstices. We each have our associations with light. What is it about light that affects us? For some, light brings hope and optimism. Light allows us to see what is around us. For some, the dark is an uncomfortable place, obscuring our ability to see. Neither is good or bad, they are just different.
Openings bring us light. Just by its nature, an Opening is a space that shows us something new and changes the landscape we are in. An Opening may come in the form of an insight, a dramatic change, a person we meet, an expansion or contraction in our life or a new opportunity. Once an Opening appears we are changed, even if we choose not to enter it.
The Nature of an Opening
Light has been defined as something that makes vision possible. The nature of an Opening introduces us to something new. It is an opportunity to grow, move somewhere different and expand our lives. In this way, it shines light on our lives as they are and invites us to create something that we have not experienced before.
We can turn away from an Opening. Are we then turning away from the light? Not always. Sometimes Openings appear that are not right for us. Or the timing is off. Saying no to an Opening can bring us light. We always have choice regarding Openings. Discerning what works for us and what doesn’t helps us progress in our lives.
We can look at Openings as offering us light – making new vision possible. Doing so may lessen our fear of some Openings or raise our excitement about others. Movement is a key ingredient of a fulfilling and purposeful life. Movement is easier in the light than in the dark, although the dark does not preclude movement; it’s just a different type of movement.
What We Can Do in the Light
Light allows us to see what is around and ahead of us. Movement is easier as the path ahead is clear. We can analyze where we are and decide where we want to go. For many, light enlivens us. It quells fear as we can see what lies around us. Light brings optimism in many instances. We can transfer the optimism to the Openings that appear before us.
In the light we can move freely. As we move, we can see what is around and ahead of us. Movement is supported. If obstacles appear, we sometimes can see them in advance and decide what to do about them. We can prepare for example if we see a challenging mountain in front of us and support our continued movement.
Light has biological effects on life. “Light is a central part of the human experience. Not only does light allow us to see but also our exposure to light largely determines our physiological, and in turn psychological, functioning. The majority of organisms on the planet, including humans, have developed finely tuned circadian clocks synced to Earth’s light-dark cycle.” ( Source: Building Biology Institute )
Making The Most of Openings
As we near the start of a new year, a great resolution is to make the most of Openings in 2023. Openings bring opportunity and positive change if we accept their challenges. If we create a perspective that Openings bring light, we can approach them as positive aspects of our lives that allow us to grow and thrive. Just in deciding whether to enter an Opening, we grow.
Openings bring out the best in us. They are made of light and when we partner with them, we are better for it.,
Light? I can see now how Openings bring magic into my life.
