Passing Up an Opening

Goodness, I’m not sure. I have hesitation about entering this Opening. What should I do?

We Have Choice

There are no absolute rules to follow when it comes to Openings. The decision rests with us. The choice whether to enter an Opening is ours to make. This gives us freedom and agency to guide our own paths. With choice, comes responsibility (to our own selves). Once we acknowledge this, we can ready ourselves for the decision before us and proceed in the best way possible.

Not every Opening is a must to enter. Openings are fluid. Some will work and some will not. They are markers on our journeys. Our decisions regarding them set our path. We choose what’s right for us in the present moment. Whatever our decision, we grow in making it. Openings will continue appearing unless we shut them out in fear or lethargy. Our growth is the point of an Opening.

Acknowledging and owning our power of choice moves us forward in a positive way and empowers us. We create our destiny through our choices. At the same time, choices have consequences – good ones and bad ones. Our choices need careful consideration. With choice comes responsibility. As Dr Seuss said “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

Not Ready?

Sometimes an Opening appears, and we don’t feel ready for what it can bring or even for making the choice whether to enter it. This can stop us in our tracks.  The important thing is to stay in place and to acknowledge and embrace the choice before us. Running away gets us nowhere and can even send us backwards.

At the same time, the choice is before us for a reason. Best that we find out what the reason is by facing the Opening and figuring out what its nature is. Openings have purpose. They are not aimlessly showing up in our journeys. They guide and challenge us. If we look at Openings in this perspective, we will want to explore them and do what is needed to make the best choice possible.

Discernment is called for when we feel we are not ready for an Opening. We can explore what is behind this feeling. Is there fear? Are we truly not ready? When we decide to pass by an Opening because we are not ready, there is still some work to do. We can analyze the basis for our decision not to enter. Perhaps the Opening was not right for us and we know why or we need to assuage and release our fear or we need to get ourselves more prepared for the challenges the Opening proposed.

Taking A Leap

Sometimes an Opening is asking us to take a leap. Maybe to stretch ourselves, face a fear or release things that matter to us. Entering the Opening will bring us to a new place in our journey and we may be feeling just fine where we are, not wanting to move. We then find ourselves on a precipice. Should we jump or turn away? If that the leap is one that we want to take, then we can get ourselves ready.

Risk is not always something we embrace. Our society defines risk as danger or hazard. But, in our everyday lives, most of what we consider risk is not about true danger or hazard but is about stepping out of our comfort zone. If we do not take risks, we keep ourselves in a state of suspension and our lives begin to stagnate. Taking risks brings vitality and movement to our lives.  Allowing ourselves to take risks opens new vistas and possibilities.

The ability to take risks involves boldness, belief in ourselves, trust, and skill. When we take a risk, we are putting ourselves in a place that is unknown. Risk means accepting uncertainty. We leave our comfort zone and walk away from something that we know.

Owning Our Choice

So, when an Opening appears before us, we know a choice is before us as well. As we sharpen our skills relating to that choice we prepare ourselves to use Openings as powerful tools that they are in our journeys!

I am not going to stop because of my hesitation. I acknowledge my power of choice and will decide if this Opening is for me.
