People and Openings

A pack of wolves in snow all in differing positions walking forward.

Gosh, it’s stressful dealing with people who are involved in my Openings.

Openings Are Not Ours Alone

To get through most Openings we must deal with others. We live in community, both locally and globally. When Openings appear, we seldom can deal with them entirely alone. Other people are involved. They have influence on our experience and are able to interfere with or support what we want to do. Best to get used to this as skill is required to navigate an Opening where others are involved.

Dealing with people asks a lot of us. As we choose whether to enter an Opening and as we enter one, we must understand energy – the motivations, personalities, styles, agendas and approaches of those people we encounter along the way. This understanding does not come easily. We need to develop our abilities to deal with energy and how it affects our interactions. We need to know how to effectively handle interpersonal situations so that we can move smoothly through an Opening.

Some key concepts in understanding energy are:

  • Learning the difference between reacting and responding, with responding being the effective use of energy.
  • Knowing how to be fully in the present moment. It is only from there that we can make effective decisions and analyze the situation we are in.
  • Learning how to manage our emotions.
  • Learning how to keep our minds from excessive worry and overthinking.
  • Developing an ability to see where others are coming from as an outgrowth of their life experience and motivations.

Do you want to develop your ability to understand energy? Let’s talk!

The Involvement of Others

When we enter Openings, how often are we going it alone? We may make the decision to enter and start out on our own. But how often can we accomplish all that the Opening is offering us without interacting with others? People come into Openings as guides, mirrors, mentors, teachers, allies, challengers – they play all kinds of roles.

As we decide whether to enter an Opening, we can consider who may be involved. Are they people we are familiar with? Could new people be part of our experience of an Opening? Are there people who may be involved that we have had bad experiences with, in the past? What do we see as our vulnerabilities within this Opening? What are our strengths within this Opening?

How will our actions within the Opening impact the other people in our lives? Do we need to consider them? Prepare them? Accommodate them? Considering these things helps us make the most of Openings and betters our chances of not being derailed due to the actions of others. Beyond considering them, we also must find ways to deal effectively with anyone involved so that we can navigate the Opening efficiently and in our best interests.

Keeping The Flow

Dealing effectively with people and understanding energy puts us in a flow that aids us as we navigate Openings. We learn how to let the ups and downs of personal interactions support us, rather than hinder us. This flow is not smooth in every moment. Rather the key is that we can keep going within the Opening even with challenging interactions. We maintain the flow of our energy and do not allow others’ energy to redirect our own.

In some ways, it is like the flow of water. As water flows down a stream it may encounter rocks or other obstacles but when encountered, flows around them. There are smooth periods of flow and rocky ones. It rarely stops altogether and mostly maintains its course. It is fluid and flexible. This is how we can keep our flow as we navigate Openings.

Psychology talks about being in a “flow state”. It is sense of fluidity between our body and mind.  We are totally absorbed and focused beyond the point of distraction. Our senses are heightened. Our actions and awareness sync to create an effortless momentum. It is sometimes described as being in “the zone”. This is what we are looking for as we deal with personal interactions involved in Openings.

Acceptance

Interpersonal interactions are often a significant part of Openings. Best that we accept this and learn how to make the most of these interactions – both good ones and challenging ones. As we do, our way will become easier and we will make the most of the Openings we encounter.

It makes sense that I will be dealing with others as I enter and navigate Openings.
