Beacons

Sometimes I cannot find my way. I am walking in the dark with nothing to light my path. I do not know which way to go or what is ahead of me. How can I move forward?

When There Is Darkness

Darkness and light are both part of our human journey. They complement, rather than preclude, each other. We tend to assign negative values to darkness – it is evil, scary or something to avoid. Darkness is simply the absence of light. Our eyes can acclimate to the darkness and there are things to do and see within it.

It is possible that within darkness we see no Openings on our path. We may not even see a path! If we embrace the darkness, however, we can learn to see in another way. There may be something else for us to do within the darkness – to quiet ourselves, to be silent or to be receptive to insights that do not occur within the light. In understanding this, we begin to see Openings of a different nature.

Do we always need light on our path? No. Our tendency may be to define Openings only as things we can see within the light. Openings are simply an invitation to go somewhere new. Why can’t an Opening exist in the darkness? Our minds, other senses and intuitions can pick up on Openings, without needing light to see.

➟ In my ebook, Kaleidoscope: Flying Together In Earth’s New Energy, I write of the dance between light and dark and provide an exercise you can do to better understand the power of darkness on our journeys.

Climbing A Hill

As we find ourselves in darkness, it is up to us to adjust our sight and to open in a new way. We may have to release fear, uncertainty or former belief systems. We may need to develop a new way of finding Openings in darkness – mustering our courage, creativity, strength and sense of adventure – because these Openings are different than the Openings we encounter in the light.

An Opening in darkness may be hiding and challenging us to find it. It is just as powerful as an Opening we find in the light. Making our way to it may be the only way to find it. There could be a hill to climb that challenges us. As we find and climb the hill, in darkness, we are changed and transformed. Then, we are through the Opening before we know it.

What are the hills in darkness we could be asked to climb before we find an Opening? We may have to explore an issue or problem we are having before we can understand it. We may have to walk alone for a while, with no guide or sense of direction, so that we can find new guides and directions. We may have to grope in darkness, because it is not yet time for the Opening to appear.

Gradual “Light”

As we move in darkness, there are beacons of another kind to light our way. Beacons come in the form of warnings, guides, signals or insights that tell us in what direction to proceed. These beacons within the darkness can guide us as well as beacons of light do. They force us to explore and grow in new ways. Within the darkness, we can still keep going.

It is interesting that physicists now say that 95% of our Cosmos is “dark” matter. There is a lot of exploring left for them to do now. The physicist Stephen Hawking said: “The missing link in cosmology is the nature of dark matter and dark energy.”  So, scientists are now searching through vast darkness for their explanations of the Universe.

As we search within the darkness, another kind of “light” appears to move us towards Openings. This light guides us and shows us something new. We do not need visible beacons to find Openings. We can use and develop other parts of ourselves in order to “see” them. In the process, we grow and new vistas are open to us as we do. We expand our understanding of our journeys and our paths are lit in new ways.

The Power Of Beacons

In both darkness and light, beacons lead us to our Openings. It is an exciting challenge to comprehend this. How can we “see” in the dark? What is the nature of a beacon within darkness? What mysteries exist within the darkness that we can unravel and understand? How will our acclimation to the darkness, simply the absence of light, change us?

We are now being called to a new frontier. We must learn to “light” our path, even if we are currently in darkness. Darkness is not evil or dangerous; it is just different. It is a major part of our existence. There is no reason to shun it. Within the magic and mystery of darkness lie many Openings, just waiting for us to see them.

Beacons within darkness allow us to grow in new ways. They ask us to find our way without the light; to learn how to move within the darkness; to quiet ourselves and use new senses; to learn to flow within the dark. Knowing these beacons exist, accelerates our journey. Darkness can no longer stop or scare us. We can move in the darkness, as well as the light.

I know now that there are Openings in both light and darkness. Beacons will show me the way. Darkness may be the absence of light on my path, but still holds powerful Openings for me.
