Jagged
A friend said to me that the energy lately is jagged. That fits.
These Times
Jagged. Sharp, uneven edge or surface, often with points or notches. Something rough and irregular.
This is a time of transition and, some say, transformation. There is uncertainty, a fair share of jolts and shocks, the unfamiliar, things going away, things coming in, abruptness, bewilderment, polarity and speed. How are we to function within this jagged energy?
All kinds of possibilities exist within this energy– getting snagged by something sharp, witnessing things falling apart, having to acclimate to the unfamiliar, being anxious and uneasy, having to deal with the unpredictability of things, – and, within all this, having to continue to function in our lives. It is like trying to get somewhere while negotiating an obstacle course that we have never encountered before.
There is no roadmap. It is unsettling, to say the least. So much of what is occurring now has not been experienced before. Things change rapidly, sometimes from hour to hour with no apparent logic or strategy. It is as if chaos reigns and that may be the point. There is little steady ground and what is steady is only temporary.
Openings
How do we deal with Openings in these times? In jagged energy they may be harder to see, as well as harder to negotiate. We are upended. We may be distracted and preoccupied by what is occurring around us. Jagged energy can greatly unsettle us.
As an Opening appears, how are we to have the centeredness and power to make our choices? Will our choices be sound as we experience this energy? It is a challenging situation. Dealing with Openings in this energy, however, can yield powerful results and help us grow in ways that we have not before.
The Openings we encounter may be of a very different nature. They may involve finding ways to center and move steadily in the midst of intensity or releasing what we know and opening to something very new. They may involve dealing with fears that we have not known before or finding ways quickly to get comfortable with the unknown. They may test our desire and courage to grow and continue our journey.
Want to make the most of Openings in these times? Let’s do it together!
Navigating
So, what are we to do? Here are some thoughts on navigating:
- First, get a sense of where we are. What is happening around us? How are we dealing with things? Do we feel strong, unsettled, confused?
- Once we have a sense of where we are, find a path to center, so that we can acclimate to current conditions and make choices that serve us.
- Take a look around – have Openings appeared in the midst of jagged energy? Are any beckoning us now?
- Find ways to steady ourselves. It may be finding a context for what is occurring (e.g. we are undergoing a Chrysalis and things will be unsettled before the butterfly emerges), nurturing ourselves and finding the support we need, getting in action so we experience some forward momentum or “surrendering” – accepting the way things are and finding ways to make the best of it.
- Take small steps if that is the most we can handle.
- Observe keenly what is going on, hoping for insights.
- Hold space for current conditions and wait to act until we feel steady enough to do so.
- Keep an eye out for the Openings that appear that can help us navigate the energy and send us in a good direction.
Thriving?
Can we thrive in these conditions? Yes, we can. Maya Angelou once said We delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty. This jagged energy will transform us. Learning to navigate, and even thrive, within it makes us better. Life is not an easy road. We are here to learn. Jagged energy can teach us and transform us. Let’s embrace it, as challenging as it may be.
Just naming the energy is helpful. We can do this.
